MORE HARMONY 2019 ROUND-UP

Here we are at the end of another year.  2019 has flown by and it has been filled with highs and lows.

As most of you know by now, our chorus was rocked by the unexpected loss of one of our members at the end of October.

Barb Bosley had sung with More Harmony for over two years and was rarely found without a smile.  She brought fun to every rehearsal, with her sense of humour and habit of changing the lyrics!  Barb was more than just a singer with a rich, bass voice, she was our bringer of laughter, our chief cake-maker, our passionate supporter and most importantly, our friend.  Her passing has shocked and devastated us all, but she remains with us in every note we sing (and in every cheekily reinterpreted lyric!).  It was an honour to sing at her funeral and we continue to send all of our love to Barb’s family and friends.  She was a star and we will always keep her in our hearts.

One of the last conversations I had with Barb was about More Harmony’s exciting trip to sing at a big Christmas concert in Germany and I am now writing this a week after our triumphant return to the UK!  We were made so incredibly welcome and had an amazing trip, making memories which will last us a lifetime.  We would like to give our sincere thanks to everyone who supported us in making the trip, whether by donating towards the cost of travel, or simply by wishing us luck.  We'd also like to give a very big thank you to our wonderful friend and former member Monika, who invited us to Germany in the first place, and to all of the fabulous singers in FineArt choir.  Keep an eye on our YouTube channel for a vlog coming very soon, showing you just what we got up to whilst we were away!

As we head towards the close of the year, we are thrilled with having gained several new members over the last 12 months and with the musical progress the chorus has made.  We’ve sung at several events, run successful singing courses and are excited to further build on this fantastic base, making our chorus bigger and better in 2020.  We are also overjoyed to have raised a whopping £1000 for CLIC Treliske, our charity of 2019.

January marks not just a new year, but a new start.  With that in mind, as of January, we’ll be moving to a “term time” rehearsal schedule.  We’ll have three terms per year: January to Easter, with a break for the holidays, April to August, with a short Summer holiday, then September to December, with a break for Christmas and New Year.  We’ll also have “half term” social evenings.  Terms will be themed and I’m thrilled to announce that in January, our theme will be “Musicals & Songs From The Movies!”  We’re really excited to implement this change and hopefully make our chorus more accessible. To make it even more worth your while, the first two weeks of January are FREE!  So, if your New Year’s Resolution is to try a new hobby, meet some new friends or just do something special for yourself, come along on Thursday 2nd January to Wadebridge Ambulance Hall, 7:15pm for a singing skills refresher session, or join us for our first proper rehearsal of 2020 on Thursday 9th January.  With two weeks’ free, there’s nothing to lose and potentially plenty to gain!  You can message us on Facebook or email contact@moreharmony.co.uk for more details.

In the meantime, we’d like to wish all of you a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and harmonious new year!
