More Harmony have been making the most of the beautiful sunny weather we’ve had recently with some small, outdoor rehearsals.  First, our section leaders and MD got together for a socially distanced sing-through of our repertoire, followed a week or so later by a lead section rehearsal and then a mixed group of six.  Singers masks were worn and various other precautions were in place to ensure the safety of all participants.  Not only was it wonderful to see one another without the aid of a computer screen, but the glorious sunshine meant that it was an absolute joy to be singing outside.  In fact, one or two of us went home looking a little pinker than we had when we arrived…

The chance to sing together again was incredibly special.  As much as we are hugely grateful for the existence of Zoom and Facebook video etc, there is a massive difference between singing alone at home and actually hearing that beautiful harmony that we are so proud to create together.  None of us could stop smiling at that first small rehearsal and we know the same will be true for every choir and music group across the country as we start taking steps towards normality.

During that first get-together, the section leaders and MD secretly recorded a four-part harmony version of “Happy Birthday,” to celebrate our bass section member Maggi hitting the big 7-0!  The recording then formed part of a video message from the chorus as a whole.  We hope Maggi had an incredible day and we’re all looking forward to getting together to properly mark the occasion (especially if there’s cake…).

With restrictions starting to ease, our chorus committee are keeping an ear to the ground to ensure we are always aware of any changes in the government’s “roadmap.”  Our Chairman has updated our risk assessment and we’ll be ready to return to full, “real life” rehearsals in early June - we can’t wait!  Even though normality may be a little way off yet, we know hope is on the horizon and that makes us feel almost as bright as the glorious Cornish sunshine!

If you are looking for a new hobby, to make new friends or to simply indulge in your love of music, we’re always open to new members, with plenty of precautions already in place for our return to Wadebridge Ambulance Hall.  Drop us a line if you’re a woman aged 16 or over and you’d like to join in!
